This is a blast from the past! It's a solid reminder why I left higher education and corporate America. During my time as a business consultant at the Michigan SBDC house within Washington community college, I would travel all over southeast Michigan consulting with small businesses.
But to do so I would have to fill out this Excel spreadsheet and then print it and staple to it a paper. Copy of the Google map directions that I used. This created massive piles of paperwork and ate up hours of my time every month as I often had 3 to 5 spreadsheets to complete.
I found alternative programs for reporting I asked to file my reports digitally instead of on printed paper asked if I could use some automation to embed the maps in the excel sheet automatical, but I was told absolutely not at every turn because it was the policy of the college.
Well, this was anecdotal in really didn't cost me more than five hours a month. It was a very clear example of the mindset and values that the college had. They would prefer to generate hundreds of printed pages and require multiple people to sign them with a pen and deliver them to different buildings before the funds were approved. That's the level of resistance to inovation we faced.
