The queer community within the indigenous peoples of America is not often embraced and welcomed. Being cast out of the tribe is not just a figurative sense for these people. It can be quite literal, and that adds to being an ethnic minority whose rights are often ignored. As tears continue to roll down my eyes, cheeks, and chest during Seattle Pride, I feel great hope and gratitude that these people chose to put themselves in harm's way to express who they truly are and invite others to do the same. It has cost these people to be here.
